Aug. 14, 2019, Granville, Ohio — Kendal at Granville’s Health Center recently received a five-star overall rating from Medicare, its highest rating, based on state surveys conducted over the past three years. Medicare assigned separate ratings for quality measures (five stars), staffing (five stars) and health inspections (four stars). See the full report online.
Medicare notes that “Higher staffing levels in a nursing home may mean higher quality for residents.” When compared to both state and national averages, Medicare rated Kendal at Granville’s staffing statistics “Much Above Average.”
The amount of time that a Kendal at Granville Registered Nurse spends per resident each day is nearly twice the state and national average. Furthermore, Kendal’s State Tested Nurse Aides spend 20 to 30 minutes of additional time with residents daily, compared to state and national averages.
Ohio Department of Health and fire safety specialists inspect skilled nursing facilities annually to assess compliance with regulations. Kendal at Granville outperformed state and national averages by nearly 70% based on the number of citations issued over a three-year period. Kendal at Granville has had no surveys resulting from complaints over this same three-year period, which is indicative of its commitment to performance improvement and adherence to regulations.
Medicare-certified skilled nursing care centers, like Kendal at Granville’s Health Center, regularly report clinical information about each resident to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Medicare measures several quality indicators for both short-stay and long-stay residents, including the percentage of residents who had a fall with major injuries, those who are given antipsychotic medications for the first time, those who were physically restrained, and high-risk individuals who acquire pressure ulcers. Kendal at Granville outperforms state and national benchmarks on all of these key quality measures.
